Our Process

When Element engineers begin looking at a project for a new or existing client, we follow the System Integration Cycle shown below. Element engineers manage the project through all life cycles of the design, programming, checkouts, planning, and integration of our systems.

Technical Evaluation

At this stage, your team approaches us with a problem. If identifying a solution is likely to take some engineering time to develop or test, we will offer our Technical Evaluation (TE) services to be paid at T&M. A TE can typically take anywhere from 1-10 days to complete depending on the complexity of the problem and testing involved. Our TE consists of the following:

  1. We help the client build a specification that clearly identifies the problem and the measurables to resolve. For instance, a dimensional defect may require realistic and measurable tolerances; a qualitative defect may require some non-human quantifiable or measurable specification.

  2. Lab testing is common at this point and involves setting up cameras, lighting, or proto-typing a bench-top solution for proof-of-concept.

  3. Element then develops a proposal for the client with clearly defined objectives and scope.

System Design

A project is in place which means a contract or Statement of Work (SOW) has been signed and a PO has been received for Fixed Bid services. The System Design phase includes mechanical and electrical design, system hardware specification (if not developed during TE stage), procurement of all components, planning, assembly, programming, and documentation.

Checkouts

Testing of our developed solution begins in Element’s lab. If possible, this testing will include dynamic checkouts to simulate actual production/inspection speeds of moving product under inspection. I/O checkouts and hardware operation is qualified. This stage often includes Vendor Acceptance Testing (VAT) and our clients may participate.

Integration

Our client’s new solution is ready for installation and integration into their process. Our client’s handle physical installation while Element oversees and supports the install process and system setup. Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) typically commences at this point and Element is often involved in short duration qualifications (<5 days) while onsite.
